Recap of Week 2
Before starting 3rd Week you should have completed:
1) Created the ego baiting content tactic we discussed last week ,
2) Published the content in your blog
3) Complete outreaching at least 50 bloggers in your list.
4) Continued with your weekly forum commenting routine (you will use the benefit of this routine – this week)
So Now let’s start with this week’s tactic…
Tactic 2: Creating Visually Compelling content as Traffic Bait
The key to create compelling engaging content is to be aware of the audience type that flocks to a traffic source like – niche forum, reddit, youtube etc. – and then provide them with content that they like or feed on .
Before starting with this process…
Understand that the type of content creation I’m writing about here is completely different. It has nothing to do with original content, keyword research and the usual SEO stuff.
You are actually going to find out what your audience likes- and re-purpose same or similar content to feed them. Also you have to understand and master Click Baiting Titles.
Some popular blogger like Brian Dean uses a kind of similar technique which he coined as skyscraper technique which works well – but that is for SEO.
We are NOT discussing any SEO method here.
We will do keyword research, but the purpose for it is different. We will use the keywords to find out what type of content has worked well in the past for a particular niche.
So let’s begin
Head over to kwfinder.com and get a free registration. Start with your main niche topic say “baking”. It will give you a list of additional 100 keywords. From those choose 4 to 5 and do a second level research with those 5. Then you can do 3rd or 4th level research. The goal is to have a list of main keyword and 4-5 keywords with additional levels , which you can use to search for popular articles/content in the Traffic source you are selecting for channelizing traffic.
Also keep an eye on search volume and CPC for the keywords. If you are going to use Adsense for monetization choose the keywords with higher CPC value.
Store this keywords list in a text file because you are going to use these keywords for all target traffic sources for channelling traffic.
Remember you are not going to use any new content , your objective is to find content that is already popular and then re-purpose it – specially with visual elements and use it for your website to channelize traffic.
So now head over to buzzsumo with your keyword list and search for content that has been already shared in your niche. Try with all keywords you have found before and create an excel sheet for all the content url , their creation date and share details.
If you do it the right way you will have enough content to repurpose and reuse for your site to drive traffic.
Another thing to understand is how to create click baiting headlines
Here’s a list of websites that publishes 10+ viral/clickbaiting content everyday and receives over million visitors a month.
Check and look for patterns that you can find and use
Here’s one tool http://www.upworthygenerator.com/ that will help you to brainstorm upworthy like Headline Titles
You will use the content list you have found above to create similar but visually more engaging picture-list content.
Creating Picture-l List Articles for traffic and engagement
So what are picture list articles ?
It is an article that contains a series of curated images that delivers value through the combination of images. We like images but we equally like the context . And this works very well and are quite easy to create , specially when you combine this with the list of content ideas you have generated through buzzsumo for your niche.
In simple words a picture-list article basically is List + curated Images = Popular Picture-List article
The ideal length of content for each image is 75-100 words.
So if you curate 10 picture list , your content will be about 750-1000 words. You can do this yourself as you just need to comment on the picture or you can outsource the entire thing.
To give you some ideas about how much traffic these type of content can generate here is an example
This article 26 Pictures Will Make You Re-Evaluate Your Entire Existence received over 2.5 Million views!
What this list post conveyed is the huge size of our universe through a series of images, and our insignificance compared to the whole existence.
It’s a very good example of curated images + list to convey an idea or fact.
Another type of Picture-list content is where you draw comparison through a series of related images. Like this example
The third type of Picture-list Post is where you use images to demonstrate how to do something. For example – Vintage-Inspired Makeup Tutorials for Retro Looks
So how did they create the content? Basically it is a screenshots and 1-2 line commentary from this youtube video
Now tell me, what’s stopping you to do same thing for your niche ? (provided it is suitable for “how to” article. However for all niches there are beginners and for most beginners in any niche it is possible to create how to article with images)
Here’s another popular picture-list type content – Idea Curation.
One Tool to help you create great pictures quickly out of your curated picture.
Canva , in my opinion is a visual content marketers ‘dream tool’. It’s free to use and you can just use their template library to create your own touch by using size, color filters, background and brand it with your site’s style and then just create the list-pictures article as shown above.
Here are some 2-3 minutes tutorial which can make your curated images look great . You can repurpose them by adding your own small text notes and brand it for your site.
The next step
So now that I have given you ample ideas about how to create compelling visual content that is already proven to be liked by your niche audience , your next step should be to actually do the research as described, create the visual compelling content and publish it in your blog.
Once done, it is time now to use the niche forum profiles you have been nurturing for past 2 weeks .
Here are some ideas about how to use the niche forums to channelize traffic to your content:
- You can just casually post with one of your profile about the <compelling picture-list> url – commenting that you have found it interesting. When anyone comments on it. Respond to it to keep the forum post live for others to see.
- You can say that you have written the <compelling picture-list> content and are looking for more ideas to expand it and ask help for forum members.
- You can post the url of the <compelling picture-list> as a third party and add some additional ideas you think is better than the article published and gently nudge the forum members to post their opinion about it , mentioning that you have already commented about it on the site (yes do your own commenting
on that page of your site with an alias name)
Once you have done your research about what works in your niche as I’ve discussed above and prepare your content, you can start channelling from various niche forums and even through niche blog comments (on same topic) . I’ve given you just 3 ideas above to initiate the traffic flow, but frankly speaking it is just limited to your creativity.
So get going!
It’s time to Take Action on all the Ideas I’ve shared with you , so here’s your Action plan for this week
